From Front Line to Start Line

Monday, July 12, 2010

Gabriel Larouche-Roy of Levis, Quebec, is the first injured Canadian Soldier to race in a Para-athletics competition as part of the new Front Line to Start Line initiative with Athletics Canada at the Boiling Point Track Classic in Windsor, ON. Three other injured veterans, Adam Cyr from Shilo MB, Kevin Urie-Kikukawa of Toronto, ON and Chris Klodt of Hamilton, ON also tested their mettle in the international shot-put competition.

The Front Line to Start Line initiative was made possible through a three way partnership between Athletics Canada, the Soldier ON program and Boiling Point Meet Director, Jeff May. The Soldier ON athletes are also taking part in the annual Athletics Canada National Development Squad Camp which runs through July 12. On the Front Line to Start Line initiative, National Coach for Para-Athletics Talent Development, David Greig states "this is a great beginning for this program. These Soldiers represented Canada's finest military talents, a twist of fate brought them to our great sport and opened the door for a potential opportunity to once again represent Canada proudly. In these athletes our coaches see some of the skill set and motivation to succeed at the highest Paralympic level. With this initiative, we have truly taken a giant step forward for our program and our country."
