Zelinka wins silver on day 4 of track and field

OTTAWA - Jessica Zelinka of Calgary, AB captured the silver medal today at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India. Zelinka scored 6100 points in the Heptathlon which is comprised of 7 events over two days. Zelinka’s medal is the seventh so far at these Games for the track and field team.
Mason 7th; Connaughton and Power advance
In other action on day 4 of track and field competition Nanoose Bay, BC’s Mike Mason finished 7th in the high jump final with a leap of 2.20 metres.
Jared Connaughton of New Haven, PEI advanced to the 200 metre semi-finals which take place tomorrow at 8:25am (Eastern Time) after advancing through both rounds today. Connaughton registered a seasonal best performance of 20.60 seconds in his second run of the day. Advancing to the women’s 200 metre semi-final was Adrienne Power finishing second in her heat in 23.67 seconds.
A sweep of the women’s long jump podium is still possible as all three Canadians qualified for the final tomorrow at 9:10am ET. Ruky Abdulai placed second in her qualifying group with a jump of 6.46 metres, while Alice Falaiye and Tabia Charles finished second and third in group B in 6.32 and 6.29 metres respectively.
In the men’s 20km racewalk Inaki Gomez of Vancouver, BC finished in 5th in 1 hour, 27 minutes, 9 seconds while Evan Dunfee of Richmond, BC took 6th in 1 hour, 28 minutes, 13 seconds.

Jamie Adjetey-Nelson won gold in the decathlon, Dylan Armstrong took gold in the shot put, Sultana Frizell won gold in the hammer throw, Kyle Pettey won the gold in the F34 shot put, Diane Roy won gold in the T54 1500 metres and Tabia Charles took bronze in the triple jump.
