On top at NCAA finals

Ste-Justine, Que.’s Julie Labonté won the NCAA Shot Put finals over the weekend with another new Canadian Record. Labonté registered 18.31-metres to better her already established national mark of 18.21-metres from May.

Also on top at the NCAA Championships was Newmarket, Ont.’s Sheila Reid. Reid took a double victory first winning the 5000-metres in a personal best time of 15:37.57; then later she went onto win the 1500-metres in 4:14.57.

Oshawa, Ont.’s Matthew Hughes won the men’s 3000-metre steeple chase at the NCAA finals; Hughes registered a personal best time of 8:24.87, seven seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
