Justin Rodhe ruled eligible by IAAF for Olympic Games

Friday, May 04, 2012

OTTAWA - Athletics Canada is pleased to announce that shot putter Justin Rodhe of Kamloops, B.C., has been ruled eligible by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) to represent Canada at the 2012 Olympic Games.

"This is an affirmation for all the hard work I have put in, along with a lot of other people," Rodhe said.  "I just tried to focus on training and preparation, you can't allow yourself to worry, and you just have to throw your fate to the wolves sometimes."  Rodhe adds, "I've hit the A-plus standard, all I need to do is finish top-three at the Trials in Calgary to qualify for London.”

Rodhe’s season got off to a blazing start leading all Canadian shot putters and establishing a new indoor personal best of 20.95-metres.  Justin carried his momentum to the outdoor season where on April 21 in Lawrence, Kansas he set a new outdoor personal best of 21.11-metres.  The performance in Kansas also surpassed the Olympic A+ standard for qualification to the Olympic Games team.  Justin now needs to place top three at the Track and Field Trials at the end of June in Calgary, Alta., to punch his ticket to London.
