Canada set for IAAF World Race Walking Cup

OTTAWA – Athletics Canada’s entry in the 2012 IAAF World Race Walking Cup has arrived in Saransk, Russia and is ready to face competitors from over 60 other countries this weekend.  Large crowds are expected to gather around the 2-kilometre loop road course situated in the heart of the capital of the Republic of Mordovia.     

The senior men’s 20-kilometre race is scheduled for 6:15pm (MSK) and will feature Canadian junior record holder Benjamin Thorne of Kitmat, B.C. Racing alongside Thorne will be Bruno Carrière of Lachute, Que., Creighton Connolly of Vancouver, B.C., Evan Dunfee of Richmond, B.C.and Inaki Gomez of Vancouver, B.C.  

Rachel Seaman of Peterborough, Ont., and Nicola Evangelista of Vancouver, B.C., will race on Sunday in the senior women’s 20-kilometre race at 1:20 (MSK).  Seaman recently set a new Canadian record in the women’s 20-kilometre race walk at an event in Naumburg, Germany.
