Busy weekend at the track and on the road in nation’s capital

OTTAWA - Whether you’re a fan of the sport on the track and in the field, or, if distance running is your thing there will be something for you this weekend in Ottawa.  The nation’s capital is buzzing as its set to play host to the Panamerican Combined Events Cup and the Canadian Marathon Championships.  The Panamerican Combined Events Cup is being hosted by the Ottawa Lions at Terry Fox Athletic Facility on Saturday and Sunday while the Canadian Marathon Championships are set for Sunday and being organized by Tamarack Homes Ottawa Race Weekend.

Panamerican Combined Events Cup

Some of the best multi event athletes from the Panamerican region will be on display at the first ever Pan Am Cup.  The grueling two day competition will see Canada’s entry face stiff competition from ten countries including Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and the United States.  

Competition begins tomorrow with the men in the decathlon 100-metres at 2:00pm.  The woman will get things underway in the heptathlon at 2:30pm with the 100-metre hurdles.  Complete schedule of event and live results will be available at www.athletics.ca/page.asp?id=659.

Canadian Marathon Championship

The 2012 Canadian Marathon Championship will begin at 7:00am on Sunday as part of Tamarack Homes Ottawa Race Weekend.  Racing at Race Weekend officially gets underway tomorrow with the Ottawa 2K at 4:00pm, followed by the Ottawa 5K at 5:00pm and the Ottawa 10K at 6:30pm.      

Canadian Championship Prizing

First, second and third place finishers in the men’s and women’s Canadian Marathon Championship will earn $5000, $2500 and $1000 respectively. The awards presentation is scheduled for noon outside City Hall.

Route
