Diamond League circuit continues in Oslo today, New York on Saturday

OTTAWA – The 2012
Diamond League continues this week with stops five and six of the fourteen event
series. The ExxonMobil Games are today
in Oslo, Norway and will be followed by the Adidas Grand Prix in New York, USA
on Saturday.
ExxonMobil Games
Dylan Armstrong of Kamloops, B.C., will take to the shot put circle at
12:50pm ET. Armstrong will have an opportunity to gain ground in the diamond
race as current leader Reese Hoffa of the United States is not competing in
Oslo. Hoffa leads the way with with 8
points, Armstrong is in second with 3 points and Tomasz Majewski of Poland is
in third with 2 points.
Phylicia George of Markham, Ont., and Priscilla
Lopes-Schliep of Whitby, Ont., will line up the heats of the women’s sprint hurdles
at 1:20pm ET. George is in fourth place in the diamond race with 1 point;
Brigitte Foster- Hylton of Jamaica currently leads with 5 points. Americans Dawn Harper and Kellie Wells sit in second
and third place respectively with 4 points each. The 100-metre final in Oslo is
slated for 3:25pm ET.
Justyn Warner of Markham, Ont., will have the perfect
opportunity to improve on his seasonal best time of 10.29-seconds as he takes
to a star studded field in the men’s 100-metres at 3:50pm ET. Joining Warner in the starting blocks are
Usain Bolt, Lerone Clarke and Asafa Powell of Jamaica as well as Marlon
Devonish and Mark Francis-Lewis of Great Britain.
Following the Oslo Diamond League Justyn and Dylan will then
head to British-Columbia for the Harry Jerome on June 10. The Harry Jerome is the first of six stops in
the 2012 National Track League (NTL).
ADIDAS Grand Prix
Julie Labonté of Saint Justine, Que., will make her diamond
debut in New-York in the women’s shot put at 2:00pm ET. Julie holds the
Canadian record with a mark of 18.31-metres set last year at the NCAA Division
I Championships.
Nathan Brannen of Cambridge, Ont., will line up in the men’s
1500-metres at 3:13pm ET; this event is not part of the Diamond Series in
New-York.
