Canada wraps up World Juniors with pair of sixth place finishes

BARCELONA The Canadian athletics team recorded two top eight finishes on the last day of competition at the 2012 World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain.  The Canadian team recorded a bronze medal, two Canadian junior records, six top eights and 12 personal bests over the six day competition. 

In the boy's 800-metres final Brandon McBride of Windsor, Ont., placed sixth in a new Canadian junior record of 1:46.07. 

The girls 4x400-metres relay of Alexandra Courtnall of Victoria, B.C., Devan Wiebe of Vancouver, B.C., Julia Zrinyi of Winnipeg, Man., and Sage Watson of Medicine Hat, Alta., also finished sixth racing to a time of 3:37.84 in the final. 

Canada's podium finish at these World Junior Championships was won by Shawnacy Barber of Toronto, Ont., in the men's pole vault with a Canadian junior record of 5.55 metres.
