Canada wraps up World Juniors with pair of sixth place finishes

BARCELONA – The
Canadian athletics team recorded two top eight finishes on the last day of
competition at the 2012 World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain. The Canadian team recorded a bronze medal,
two Canadian junior records, six top eights and 12 personal bests over the six
day competition.
In the boy's 800-metres final Brandon McBride of
Windsor, Ont., placed sixth in a new Canadian junior record of 1:46.07.
The girl’s 4x400-metres relay of Alexandra Courtnall of
Victoria, B.C., Devan Wiebe of Vancouver, B.C., Julia Zrinyi of Winnipeg, Man.,
and Sage Watson of Medicine Hat, Alta., also finished sixth racing to a time of
3:37.84 in the final.
Canada's podium finish at these World Junior
Championships was won by Shawnacy Barber of Toronto, Ont., in the men's pole
vault with a Canadian junior record of 5.55 metres.
