New Canadian Record for Jessica Zelinka

Jessica Zelinka bettered her own Canadian record in the Heptathlon today at the 2008 Olympic Games. Zelinka earned 6490 points surpassing her previous mark set last year of 6343 points. With four personal bests in the 100m hurdles, 200m, Javelin and 800m she finished 6th overall.

"I`m off 10 points of my goal here (6500 pts) so I am very happy. After Europe where it didn`t go so well I wasn`t worried because my training was going very well to peak in August, and I did. I spent a great 2 days with my coach and we`re both very happy."

Breakdown of Jessica’s Events

100m Hurdles - 2nd in Heat 5 - 12.97, 1129 points (PB)
High Jump - 4th in Group A - 1.77m, 941 points
Shot Put - 15th in Group A - 13.79m, 780 points
200m - 4th in Heat 2 - 23.64, 1016 points (PB)
Long Jump - 4th in Group A - 6.12m, 887 points
Javelin - 2nd in Group A - 43.91m, 742 points (PB)
800m - 3rd in Heat 5 - 2:07.95, 995 points (PB)

Nataliya Dobrynska and Lyudmila Blonska of the Ukraine took the gold and silver respectively with 6733 and 6700 points while Hyleas Fountain of the United States won the bronze with 6619 points.
