Women’s 4x400m win Silver; Drouin wins bronze at Commonwealth Youth GamesThursday, October 16, 2008 OTTAWA The womens 4x400-metres relay team captured silver today at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India. The team of Lauren Leon of Mississauga, ON, Karlene Hurrel from Brampton, ON, Jessica Parry from London, ON and Alyssa Johnson of Winnipeg, MB finished in 3:45.46 edging out Australia who was third in 3:46.10. Gold went to India with a time of 3:42.02. Derek Drouin of Corunna, ON won bronze in the mens high jump with a leap of 2.09-metres. Drouin completed his first attempt at 1.90-metres, made 1.95-metres on his third attempt, then hit 2.00-metres and 2.03-metres on his first tries. He made 2.06-metres on his second try and cleared 2.09-metres on his first attempt. Gold went to Willem Voigt of RSA who was the only competitor to clear 2.11-metres; silver was won by Nikhil Chittarasu of India. Jessica Parry just missed the podium in the womens 800-metres, she was edged out by Sharp Lynsey of Scotland who finished 3rd in 2:06.77. Parry was finished 4th in a time of 2:07.23. Today marked the conclusion of track and field at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games, with the Canadian team capturing seven medals over three days of competition. The Games officially conclude on Saturday October 18. Other Canadians in action today
