Athletics Canada names 4 event group coaches

Thursday, April 30, 2009

OTTAWA – Athletics Canada named four coaches today to event group positions within the high performance structure.  Brent Fougner from Victoria, BC, Carla Nicholls from Regina, SK, Bruce Pirnie of Winnipeg, MB and Larry Steinke from Lethbridge, AB were all named to event group coach positions.

As a component of Athletics Canada’s High Performance plan, the event group coaches will complement the High Performance Training Centres on the road to London 2012.  Martin Goulet, Chief High Performance Officer comments on the new structure; “The semi-centralized system we have to deliver the High Performance plan allows the High Performance Centres’ lead coaches and the Event Group coaches to work together in an integrated fashion.”  Goulet adds that responsibilities are well aligned and very clear, “The Centres lead coaches will have a singular focus on the delivery of podium performances through to the 2012 London Games, with the event group coaches focusing on development for 2016 and 2020.”
