Strong start for Canada at World Indoors

DOHA - The Canadian hurdle duo of Perdita Felicien from Pickering, ON and Priscilla Lopes-Schliep of Whitby, ON are both off to the semi finals in the 60 metre hurdles at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Doha, Qatar. Lopes-Schliep won her heat in the day’s fastest time of 7.94 seconds while Felicien qualified third in heat two running 8.04 seconds. The semi-final takes place tomorrow at 8:00am ET with the final running at 10:25am ET.

Kamloops, BC’s Dylan Armstrong earned his spot in the shot put final by throwing 20.50 metres and finishing second in his qualification group (3rd overall). The shot put final is scheduled for Saturday at 8:20am ET.

Kelsie Hendry of Saskatoon, SK is also off to a final by placing 5th in pole vault qualifying. Hendry cleared 4.45 metres; the final will be contested Sunday at 8:20am ET.

Winnipeg, Manitoba’s Nicole Edwards made her debut performance on the international scene in the always tactical 1500 metres. Edwards finished 9th in her heat running 4:16.46, she did not qualify for the finals.

Yet to compete, Tabia Charles of Pickering, ON will make her entrance in Doha with the women’s long jump qualification scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday) at 2:00am ET.
