TRANSCANADA 10km CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Run with the Champions will serve as the TransCanada 10km Canadian Championships and the Canadian 10km Wheelchair Championships.  Last year more than 40 athletes competed for the Canadian title.  If you are interested in racing for the national title, please review the Technical Package for eligibility requirements.

TIMEX SERIES FINALE

The Championship will also host the TIMEX Series final which is the culmination of the TIMEX provincial series, encompassing every province across the country.  The TIMEX National Road Race Series has over 110 races with in excess of 140,000 participants, designed for all runners from beginner to the elite competitor. 

The TransCanada Canadian 10km Championships will serve as the Timex Road Racing Series Finale. Prizing will be awarded to the Top 3 male and female finishers in the Timex race.

Meet Hotel

The Sheraton Ottawa will serve as the meet hotel this year.  The rate for the weekend is $109.00/night.  The deadline to guarantee this rate is September 16th, 2008

Race Kit Pick-up

Registration will begin on Friday, October 17 from 4-8pm at the Ottawa Sheraton (Salon C).  Pick-up will also be available on saturday morning starting at 7am (Barney Danson Theatre - Canadian War Museum)

ChampionChip

You will be able to pick up your ChampionChip two (2) hours prior to the start of the race near the start line.  The ChampionChip records your official time.  If you do not pick up your ChampionChip, your time will not be recorded.  Your ChampionChip will be collected at the finish line.  If it is not returned, you will be charged $40.00.

Bag Check-In

Due to safety regulations and limited storage space, the race staff cannot accommodate full-sized suitcases, paper bags, or clothing bundles – please use the bag provided.  Please do not check valuables.  The race staff is not responsible for the baggage although every effort will be made to have your bag waiting for you after the race.  To check-in your bag, please have your race number with you.

10km Course

The Start

The start for the National 10km Championship and the Run with the Champions 10km is the same.  Click here for a description of the course.  All athletes registered in the National Championship will be placed at the front of the pack, with the Run with the Champions participants in the second wave.  Due to safety and insurance considerations, bicycles, baby joggers, strollers, skateboards, rollerblades, and dogs are prohibited on the course. 

The race starts at the Canadian War Museum, before heading over into Gatineau on the Booth St. Bridge.  You then take a right on Laurier, before heading back over to Ottawa on the Portage Bridge.  The race then proceeds out on the Ottawa River Parkway, to Island Park before returning to the War Museum

The Finish

After you cross the line, where your time is automatically recorded, proceed through the finishing chute.  A volunteer will assist you with the removal of your ChampionChip.  After your ChampionChip is collected, you will receive your 2008 commemorative Run with the Champions Finisher’s medal.  If your ChampionChip is not returned, a $40.00 fee will be charged.  After the finish, please proceed toward the post-race activity area.

5km Course

The 5km course will start and finish in front of the Canadian War Museum.  Participants will head out on the Ottawa River Parkway for 2.5km, turnaround and head back for the Museum.  The start/finish line for the 5km is the same as the finish line for the 10km.

After you cross the line, where your time is automatically recorded, proceed through the finishing chute.  A volunteer will assist you with the removal of your ChampionChip.  After your ChampionChip is collect, you will receive your 2008 commemorative Run with the Champions Finisher`s medal.  If you ChampionChip is not returned, a $40.00 fee will be charged.  After the finish, please proceed toward the post-activity area.

Not Finishing

If you are unable to finish the race, please stop at the nearest water station or course marshal for assistance and direction.

Cancellation Policy

There is a no refund policy once you have paid for your entry into the 2008 TransCanada 10km Championship and Run with the Champions 10km.  Registrations are also non-transferable.

Certificates

Participants who finish the Run with the Champions 10km will have the opportunity to download their certificate directly from the event website.  Your certificate will include your overall placing and your official time.  You can download your certificate here

Medical Information

St. John’s Ambulance will be located at the start/finish line.  Massage therapy may also be available after the race (on a first come first serve basis).

Two water stations will be located on the course.  Water and Gatorade will be available at the finish line.

Spectator Information

Spectators are welcome to cheer on their family and friends.  Spectators are welcome at any point on the course, but please ensure that you stay off the course and out of the way of the runners.

Athletics Canada Youth Development Fund

The TransCanada 10km Championship and Run with the Champions 10km benefits Canada’s developing athletes - our future Olympians.  All proceeds from this race will benefit Athletics Canada`s youth development programs, helping off-set (and hopefully eliminate) the costs associated with self funded teams.

Volunteers
